Quincy, FL

February 05, 2007

Landmark Community Newspapers, Inc., Shelbyville, Kentucky, purchased the Gadsden County Times, Quincy, FL, on Feb. 5, 2007, according to Gary Greene, of Cribb, Greene & Associates, who represented the seller in the transaction. The 107-year-old newspaper, northwest of Tallahassee, is being purchased from Gemini Newspapers, Inc., owned by Ron Isbell and Dwight Connelly. The 5,200-circulation weekly is published on Thursday.

Eddie Ledbetter will continue as general manager of the Gadsden County Times. He has been with the Times since December 1, 2006, after nearly 10 years on the editorial staff of the Statesboro Herald, a daily in Statesboro, GA. He served in several editorial positions in Statesboro, including the final six years as managing editor. While serving as managing editor, the Herald won numerous awards. Previously, he was a reporter, photojournalist, columnist and correspondent for the Herald, The Post-Searchlight in Bainbridge, GA, and the Claxton Enterprise in Claxton, GA.

"I’m really excited that Landmark has acquired the Gadsden County Times," Ledbetter said. "I’m looking forward to the challenge of making a great small-town weekly even better with the resources that Landmark has to offer. This is a great situation for us, our readers and customers, and we’re fortunate to have the opportunity to join such an organization as LCNI."

LCNI owns several Florida papers, including The Wakulla News in nearby Crawfordville south of Tallahassee, plus The Chiefland Citizen, Williston Pioneer Sun-News, the Cedar Key Beacon, Riverland News in Dunnellon, all paid weeklies, and Citrus County Chronicle. Gerry Mulligan, regional manager and publisher of the Citrus County Chronicle, LCNI’s 7-day daily to the southeast, said, "We are happy to add this paper serving the full-time and part-year residents of Gadsden County to our Florida properties. It’s a lovely place in a growing county." Mike Abernathy, LCNI president, added that "LCNI is excited to acquire this weekly in a growth market northwest of Tallahassee."

Landmark Community Newspapers, Inc. now publishes 57 paid newspapers in 13 states. Five are dailies, four triweeklies, six semiweeklies, and 42 weeklies. LCNI also publishes 41 free newspapers and shoppers, 30 special-interest publications, and operates 17 web offset commercial printing plants. Landmark Sports Group operates seven nationally circulated collegiate sports publications, including Osceola covering Florida State University.

LCNI is a division of Landmark Communications, Inc., a privately held media company based in Norfolk, VA with coast-to-coast interests in newspapers, specialty publications, TV broadcasting, and cable programming.

Cribb, Greene & Associates is an eighty-four year old newspaper brokerage company with offices in Charlottesville, Virginia and Bozeman, Montana.
