Osceola, IA

August 03, 2006

Tom Shaw, President of Shaw Newspapers, announced today the purchase of Clarke County Publishing in Osceola, Iowa, from Sally and the late Frank Morlan, according to John Cribb, of Cribb, Greene & Associates, who represented the seller in the transaction. The 4,000 paid circulation Osceola Sentinel-Tribune newspaper and 16,000 free distribution shopper, the Advertiser, are both publications of Clarke County Publishing.

Rich Paulsen, publisher of the Creston (IA) News Advertiser, one of the Shaw family of community newspapers, was named publisher for all of the publications in both Osceola and Creston.

Sally Morlan said, "Frank and I were very happy in Osceola and were committed to making Osceola and Southern Iowa a better place to live. We have chosen a community minded newspaper group to lead our operation forward."

Tom Shaw stated, "We are pleased to have Frank & Sally Morlan’s company as part of our family of community newspapers. As stewards of America’s third oldest continuously owned and managed newspaper company, we are honored by the trust Mrs. Morlan has bestowed upon us in this transaction." The Shaw newspaper group has over 40 community newspapers in Iowa and Illinois.

"The purchase of Clarke County Publishing added with the Creston Publishing Company will give the Shaw Newspaper Group a larger footprint in Central and Southwest Iowa," according to Rich Paulsen. "There is a good group of people at Clarke County Publishing and I look forward to working with them. It has been a pleasure to work with both Sally and Frank Morlan over the years."

The purchase is effective Tuesday, August 1.
