Pioneer Newspapers, Inc., the parent corporation of the Bozeman Daily Chronicle, has purchased the Lone Peak Lookout, a weekly newspaper published in Big Sky, along with the annual Big Sky Guide, according to John T. Cribb, Bolitho-Cribb & Associates, who advised the buyers in the acquisition.
The Lookout, founded by Kevin and Jennifer Kelleher in May 1982, is a tabloid-format publication with a weekly free distribution of 4,400. It is the fifth largest weekly in the state as measured by distribution, and the first weekly in the state to utilize full color on a regular basis. The Lookout won the Dimsdale Sweepstakes award for the best weekly in the state in 1995, and is the only weekly in southwest Montana to have won the award.
The Lone Peak Lookout will be published by Big Sky Publishing, the same Pioneer subsidiary that publishes the Bozeman Daily Chronicle and Business to Business, a monthly business journal for southwest Montana.
Pioneer Newspapers is a Seattle-based, closely held corporation that owns daily newspapers in Havre, Montana, Pocatello and Nampa, Idaho, Logan, Utah, Klamath Falls, Oregon, and Ellensburg, Washington, in addition to the Chronicle and several other weekly newspapers.
Bolitho-Cribb & Associates is a publishing company brokerage firm with offices in Montana, Florida, and Wyoming.
