Jim and Lisa Sanford, and David and Tamra Sanford have sold Mason Valley News, Inc., Yerington, Nevada to the Reno Gazette-Journal, according to John Cribb, Bolitho-Cribb & Associates, who represented the Sanfords in the transaction. The Reno Gazette-Journal is owned by Gannett Co., Inc.
Mason Valley News, Inc. owns and operates the Mason Valley News, the county seat weekly newspaper of Lyon County, which has a paid circulation of 3,700. The News is 92 years old and has a broadsheet format with Friday delivery. Included in the sale was the Fernley Leader/Dayton Courier, a 12-year-old weekly newspaper with 3,100 paid circulation. The company also operates a web printing plant in Yerington.
Lyon County, Nevada has experienced tremendous population growth of 55% from 1990 through 1998. Economic health in the area is excellent, with recent new operations established by Amazon.com, Quebecor, and UPS.
