Kerry and Joy Murdock of Confluence Publishers, Inc. have sold their shopper, The Nickel, to Cox Newspapers, Inc., according to John Cribb of Bolitho-Cribb & Associates who represented the sellers in the transaction.

The Nickel is a free weekly shopper that distributes some 20,000 copies each Wednesday in Mesa County and throughout much of western Colorado and eastern Utah.

Kerry Murdock will continue to manage The Nickel for the immediate near term and will assist in the ownership transition for up to six months. He will report to George Orbanek, publisher of the Daily Sentinel, also owned by Cox.

“Kerry and Joy have done a superb job of building a strong regional shopper,” Orbanek said. “It’s our hope that we can build upon their entrepreneurship to fashion an even stronger regional shopper to better serve print advertisers who want to reach the broadest possible audience in western Colorado and eastern Utah.”

Bolitho-Cribb & Associates is a seventy-eight year old newspaper brokerage company with offices in Montana, Wyoming, Wisconsin, Virginia, and Florida.
