The Estate of William L. Matthew has sold the Florida publishing assets of the Bill Matthew Co. to Independent Publications Inc. of Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania, according to Gary Greene of Cribb & Associates, who represented the seller in the transaction.
The Matthew publishing operations are based in Dade City and include twelve weekly publications and two printing plants. Publication titles include: Pasco News, Pasco Shopper, Clermont News Leader, News Leader Four Corners, Triangle Shopping Guide, Lake News, Lake News Villager, Sumter Shopper, Mt. Dora Topic, Eustis News, Tavares Citizen and Gadsden County Times.
Andrew T. Bickford, president of Independent Publications Inc., said, “The Matthew Co. publications create a wonderful opportunity to expand our publishing and commercial printing presence in some of the fastest growing areas of Florida. Combined with our existing operations in the state, we will be reaching nearly 500,000 households each week with our publications.”
Earlier this year, Independent Publications acquired Florida Sun Publications which is based in Bradenton, and owns a number of weekly publications including the Osceola News-Gazette, and operates a commercial web printing plant. Cribb & Associates represented the Toronto Sun, former owner of Florida Sun Publications, in that transaction.
Independent Publications is a privately held company with daily and weekly newspapers and other publications in three other states: New Hampshire, Pennsylvania, and New York. It also has a commercial printing division and a sound communications division.
Cribb & Associates is an eighty year old newspaper and publication brokerage firm with offices in Montana, Virginia, and Florida.”
