Byerly Publications has agreed to sell The Tidewater News in Franklin, Va., to Tidewater Publications LLC. The Tidewater News is a twice-weekly newspaper published on Thursdays and Sundays with circulation of 6,700. It serves Franklin and surrounding areas of Virginia and North Carolina.

Tidewater Publications LLC was newly formed in Virginia to acquire and publish The Tidewater News. Todd H. Carpenter, president and COO of Boone Newspapers, Inc., is the majority owner of Tidewater Publications. Boone Newspapers and its key personnel also are owners of Tidewater Publications. The new company will be managed by Boone Newspapers, which also manages The Suffolk (Va.) News-Herald, The Roanoke-Chowan News-Herald in Ahoskie, N.C., and The Gates County (N.C.) Index.

Carpenter, who also is publisher of the BNI-owned daily newspaper The Natchez (Miss.) Democrat, will add his BNI corporate role to his publisher’s duties. Hanes Byerly, long-time Tidewater News publisher and owner of Byerly Publications, will step down at the Tidewater News, but will maintain his office in the newspaper building.

Boone Newspapers acquired its first newspapers in 1970 and now operates newspapers in more than 30 communities in Alabama, Michigan, Mississippi, Minnesota, Ohio, Virginia and North Carolina. Jim Boone and his five children own Boone Newspapers Inc.
